AvtoVAZ says abandons idea of short workweek from August 31

MOSCOW, Aug 19 (PRIME) -- Russian car producer AvtoVAZ has decided against introduction of a short workweek from August 31 due to the arrival of new orders, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

"AvtoVAZ has cancelled an order dated June 10, 2020 on introduction of a short workweek from August 31,” the company said.

“This is connected to provision of the company with orders for new cars for the next few months this year in the framework of accelerated state purchases on the initiative of the Industry and Trade Ministry and under a decision of the president of Russia, due to higher corporate sales and the start of the car market demand recovery."

According to the statement, the amount of sales in 2020 is unclear, as well as market development in 2021. The current workload on the plant can be maintained only if demand persists.
